Twice in one week and Flinstones (Via @Brookston)

The ever amazing Brookston Beer Bulletin has an amazing post about The Flinstones schilling for Busch Beer.

Sir, you are what we admire most but don't aspire to be, at least in this forum.

Wreckless Man

Ok, so this isn't a video.  There is a video out there somewhere of this song being performed live on a back porch at a party full of high schoolers drinking moonshine, and it's completely and entirely awesome, but it's no longer online as far as I can tell.  CMT had it on their site (it was from an excellent CMT program on illegal liquor called "Moonshine Madness"), but they've long since removed it from their site.  I've been looking for a copy of the video for years, but I just can't find it.

However, my latest attempt turned up a recorded version that same band did.  It seems they're called "Virginia Ground" but I think CMT called them "The Back Porch Boys" or something like that, perhaps they weren't officially a band at that point.  This recording is very good, but lacks the neat vibe the video had; just seeing some 17 year old dudes drinking illegal liquor at a party late at night in the backwoods suddenly pull out instruments and go to town.  Still, this might be the closest I get to sharing this without buying a copy of the DVD somewhere, ripping it, uploading it to YouTube, and hoping enough people see it before YouTube takes it down for copyright reasons.  So without further ado, here's Virginia Ground playing "Wreckless Man"

If you ever get a chance, check out the CMT program CMT Most Shocking: Moonshine Madness. Even if you don't like country music at all (I'm certainly not the biggest fan in the world), it's a fascinating look into illegal liquor and covers some topics most of the History Channel programs leave out.

Must Be!

Ok, so I'm sorry I didn't post for Fermentation Friday, I was busy moving all week.  However, I do have a shiny nugget of alcohol-induced insanity for Monday Hangover:

I'm not sure Dylan captures the whole "Christmas spirit" thing, what with the Hasidic musicians and drunken brawls, but it sure looks like a party I'd love to be at!

The Right Call

And in related news, I think it's time to figure out how to widen the area the content is in.

Three Sheets

Yes, this is an ad. No, we're not getting money for it. This is an awesome show I've come across, and I think if you like this blog you'll probably love this show.

I know there's some similar and more "respectable" show called something like the Thirsty Traveler. Too much class for me. Classy is not how we roll here at JABB. Three Sheets is similar in concept to Thirsty Traveler, but this guy gets fucking plowed. I mean, he throws them back! It's pretty interesting on many levels, and I recommend catching an episode or two if you get FLN and can find it buried deep within the bowels of obscure, small-audience, special-interest digital cable channels.

We need to talk about your flair...

Bartender flair is something I've wanted to post a video of for some time now, but I could never find a video that really blew my dress up. This one is definitely good enough.

Now, I have some problems with this sort of thing; it doesn't really have to do with mixing drinks, it's just juggling. If you look closely, you can see about 7 shots of booze spilling out all over the place as he flips the bottle, which in my eyes is alcohol abuse. And that's why I haven't posted a video like this yet. But this guy's presentation and preciseness caught my eye. It's not 8 bottles, it's not a 12 minute routine that empties 7 of the 8 bottles, but it's really well executed.

People who vomit blue and gold

As a follow-up to my last article on Penn State and drinking, here's some videos.

Fore!

Sadly, not real. It's just a slightly dangerous magic trick. Look at 26 seconds, you can see where the ball she hit actually went. Look on the right edge of the path back towards where the table is, you'll catch a glimpse of the real ball.

The dude holding the aluminum bottle just flipped it back into the bushes with his fingers at the appropriate time. Earlier, someone had planted a pre-dented bottle in the bushes.

The real ball was a grounder back into the bushes. They might not have even digitally removed it. On such a low quality recording, you could probably hardly see the ball - and there's another giveaway. The "ball" that hits the can is way too clear for such a poor quality recording, it was digitally added later.

All that being said, I do NOT recommend trying this at home! Even attempting this the way I just described is very dangerous!! Especially if you've been drinking. You see, although she didn't have to hit the can to make the trick work, she did have to not hit one of the people. Sure, the area where there's no people is a much bigger target than the can, but there's still the possibility of hitting someone.

And if you think that's not a big deal, just ask Richard Dicks. One time we were out golfing (and drinking, of course) with Paddy. Richard hit a low grounder off to the right of the tee box, into some bushes. He took off after it, with the intention of taking a Mulligan on the shot. I casually teed up, addressed the ball, and as I was backswinging it occurs to Paddy what is about to happen. As if in slow motion (to him) he opened his mouth to yell "Stop!" but it was too late. I was already on the downswing and the ball drove straight and hard to the right, hitting Richard squarely in the right shoulder blade. He had a large welt for a month, and a sore shoulder for even longer.

But apart from the digital ball, it's just a basic magic trick. It would probably even work in person. The viewer's eye naturally follows where they think the ball should go, and they don't notice the grounder going towards the picnic table. Especially if they've been drinking. Probably no one was searching the bushes earlier for planted bottles.

Simple, when you know how it's done.

A distant third?

First, that looks like 750ml, not a liter. I'm not sure if they even make 1 liter bottles, I think it's just fifths and handles. Second, there's about 17 shots in a bottle. Third, there's 18 of them. So even not counting all they spilled, they each got less than a shot.

I don't know about you, but when I drink Turkey, it's always doubles.

So it's a cool event, cool spectacle, and good way to get a party started and get everyone excited; but not exactly one of Hercules' Labors.

But here it is, after 5PM! I'm such a slacker. I suppose I should make this one a two-fer to make it up to you.

Well, I told you I drink doubles of Wild Turkey, usually on the rocks. It's a drink that gets you respect from the hardest of hardcore drinkers at the bar. But there are two who command even more respect than I when it comes to throwing back Turkey...
